I had a good run home this afternoon. It was another unplanned run – Its unplanned in the sense that I didn’t wake up this morning saying to myself I’ll run home. I just started running and never stopped; I think I’ve got to work a little more at conserving energy because as I get tired my technique gets a bit sloppy and I imagine I’m not as efficient as I should be and then I run heavy and flop about – or at least that's what it feels like. I ran pretty well today though. Kept my elbows in and was light on my toes but my toes started to pain near the end.

I’m interested in a Perl web framework called dancer which I’m going to configure as a means to utilise my Perl knowledge and perhaps make some sort of automation application that could help me sometime. I’d install it on my developer machine at the office and see how far that gets me. I’m also updating my Windows 10 tablet to the latest version of Windows…take a while.

Normally these days I run into the office and then hook up my watch to the PC and upload my run details and as such my cable it at the office so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow until I do that. But according to my log book function on my watch the details of todays run are as follows:

Start time 17:22 (I left a little early because my build was not working and well meh)

Time 0:40’42 Distance 9.25km Avg 13.6km/h Max 17.8 km/h asc 36m dsc 47m

And thats it! I think thats a lot quicker than usual because I’m usually around 45mins per 9.64km and I’m not sure why its not that distance today but well thats what it is.

Anyway so far I’m not getting anywhere installing dancer with Active State perl so I’ve uninstalled it and trying Strawberry perl…

Last two evening runs home

I had a good run last Tuesday, got an achievement so that's good. The nice thing about summer is that you can totally run back home after work.

In winter, the only real option I have is to run into the office in the morning and I’ve been so used to doing that that even in summer I’m doing it. I’ve kind now down to running into the office or from the office once a week. I used to run twice and priro to that i used to run 3 times a week but plans change. I’m quite liking the reduced hours actually.

I also had a good run on Friday, where I wasn’t planning on running all the way home but got to the top of the hill and thought I’d quite like to continue all the way home. So I did. I got stopped on route by someone who asked me: “where do you run? I see you all the time”. i think that’s kinda what made me continue all the way home this time. I felt a little bit inspired:

I also ended up being 2nd Overall on oxford Down and 3rd overall on Oxford Up. Pace is a steady average of about 4”3’ which is fine for a 75kg male.

I also run my new shoes into 100Km territory again and I’ve been advised to replace them again. So I’ll need to replace the replacements! Though the nice thing about replacing your shoes at this point is that often they need it. I’ve got a large potion of rubber/traction on my right side sole worn away – I’m a supinator or under pronator – i run on my outer sides of my feet instead of the ‘normal’ which is to run on the inner sides. And it actually the Nike pegasus 33’s that I’ve been using lately I’ll be ordering my 3rd pair soon that are for my type of running style.

Fastest time this year

So here is something quite interesting. I decided to hold back on running for a while. I don’t know what it was but my body just hasn’t wanted to do any running. Maybe I was getting too tired of the routine and I just didn’t ‘feel’ like running. So after my little hiatus, I ‘felt’ like running yesterday.

And ran my fastest ever time while running to work! It didn’t feel particularly tough and I guess because I felt like running(which is how it should be, else I don’t run) it was a great run.

I’ve also moved up my rankings to 8th overall, particularly on a specific segment which other athletes use: https://www.strava.com/activities/1087491042/segments/26771829409. My average pace is around 4’20 which is about 10 seconds up on my usual average.

I didn’t feel like running in today, but that’s OK, I’m sure I’ll feel like running in again soon.
