I went for a run with the guys from work after what has been about 2 months of recovery and being out of action. Firstly. I made it. They guys knew it was my first day back but they didn’t accommodate me. We ran faster than I can remember we ever ran. So I’ve got a plan up my sleeve… I’m going to keep this run as the bar and I’m going to get so much better at this run and soon I’m going to be making these guys struggle as I did. Its going to be friendly, competitive payback. Anyway, lets analyse the run.

Firstly, 13.72km at an average pace of 4’11 min/km is outside of my comfort zone. I don’t usually run more than 10km and normally I like to average about 4’30 min/km. So it was a bit of a push for my first day back and that’s being moderate. V02 Maxed out at 45ml/kg/min with PTE a loaded 3.9. Quite impressive really. But I shouldn’t tried to give into their run – i should’ve run my own race. I didn’t I was impatient and wanted to keep up. Silly.

So its game on now, my aim will be to get 4’10 min/km comfortably so that I can improve and then push these guys until they surrender!!

Since having been knocked for six recently with a particularly nasty bout of Pharyngitis and being sceptical about being ready to put strain on my body, I decided today I’d do something gently.

In hind sight, I perhaps should have taken a shorter route on my first outing but I hedged that risk by running slowly. I really enjoyed it, it was cold but after, I started sweating and so things became a mild affair.

Actually, even with the reduced effort, it was a good result, 9.4k over 50 minutes is fine – 5’00 pace which is nice and to be honest, I thought I’d be up there at say 6’00/km pace.

My legs were tired, my arches in my feet easily told me that perhaps this was a bit too much distance too soon. I suspect I might have a tender arches for the upcoming days – hopefully not. By inner thighs were surprisingly straining and I think this is just because I’ve been weak and inactive for such a long time.

I considered buying a new watch today but I’ve crossed it off the list again – btw I was considering a Garmin Fenix 5. I just don’t think i really can justify the price and while having one would be awesome and cool and stylish – it wouldn’t do anything for my running – all i need is GPS and a timer and I’ve got that already.

Anyway, hopefully this doesn’t come back to haunt me tomorrow or the days after as this was a long run straight out the gates… but I think it was good to try and convince the brain that, there is more to come…and not to think otherwise!

First run back home in new job.

Ran home from my first day in a new office today. It was a good day. Here are the details: I ran with a log more in my back pack than the last run I did from the city. It wasn’t bad, in fact it was quite manageable and really beautiful. I didn’t get lost this time and make all the right turns this time around. My heart rate monitor was flashing red the whole time and this must have been because I was carrying a heavier load than usual. Lets see:
