Since having been knocked for six recently with a particularly nasty bout of Pharyngitis and being sceptical about being ready to put strain on my body, I decided today I’d do something gently.

In hind sight, I perhaps should have taken a shorter route on my first outing but I hedged that risk by running slowly. I really enjoyed it, it was cold but after, I started sweating and so things became a mild affair.

Actually, even with the reduced effort, it was a good result, 9.4k over 50 minutes is fine – 5’00 pace which is nice and to be honest, I thought I’d be up there at say 6’00/km pace.

My legs were tired, my arches in my feet easily told me that perhaps this was a bit too much distance too soon. I suspect I might have a tender arches for the upcoming days – hopefully not. By inner thighs were surprisingly straining and I think this is just because I’ve been weak and inactive for such a long time.

I considered buying a new watch today but I’ve crossed it off the list again – btw I was considering a Garmin Fenix 5. I just don’t think i really can justify the price and while having one would be awesome and cool and stylish – it wouldn’t do anything for my running – all i need is GPS and a timer and I’ve got that already.

Anyway, hopefully this doesn’t come back to haunt me tomorrow or the days after as this was a long run straight out the gates… but I think it was good to try and convince the brain that, there is more to come…and not to think otherwise!
