I woke up determined to run to the office today. This would be my first run to the office in a month since I started taking it easy. When I looked at my phone it said, “Don’t do it, Stuart” – the MET office had issues warnings about slippery conditions due to the mist and chances that it would freeze. So I looked for more excuses to run: I looked out the window and it seemed like I couldn’t see any frost on the buildings and outside. Good. Also, the app said it was 5 degrees outside. That means its not below freezing and thus surely its not freezing up the mist. Good. 1 against and 2 for…right thats enough for me and I set of all geared up and ready to go!

It was a great run!

Here it is:

I even got 3rd fastest time on A40 run to Denham. Not bad for my first run in for a while!

I did encounter some slippery surfaces but not many, I read that I should decrease my stride lengths due to the slippery underfoot conditions generally so I did that. I did a few John Wayne’s(cowboy walks) while crossing over the overhead bridges over some of the intersections in Denham. particularly the ‘Denham roundabout’ and because I’d dressed rather sensibly, I wasn’t particularly cold. I wore a tight fitting base layer because they say if its tight fitting, the sweat will keep you warm (ok?) and also a running jacket and a snood/scarf.

It took me 45’52 and 9.63km which is actually pretty good with the cautioned approach I took to running, avoiding big strides and slowing down when approaching slippery parts. Average speed was 12.6 km/h and apparently I had a bit of extra excitement having reached 16 km/h! My average HR was 153 peaking at 174 which is pretty ok. As expected by PTE was 2+(2.6).

Sometimes I run that run and I’m absolutely knackered when I reach work…perhaps I might do that once a week – same time, Wednesdays. Dont know, jury’s out on that one at the moment. And my pegasus’s are doing just great.

Tomorrow is my birthday but don't tell anyone…
