I didn’t run today at all, its Wednesday so I have nothing on. I’ve decided to take a break from running until my calf is sufficiently healed. I know its not quite right and every time I run on it, it starts hurting again ever so slightly. So I’ve had enough of it. Got to stop running and let it heal.
I do a lot of running and I never usually have a problem with my calf so I was trying to think what it could be that has caused this. Is it the excess of hills? The amount of running I do? Then this morning I figured it out…
After I came back from my holiday in which I didn’t do any calf training exercises for 2 weeks, I went to the gym and remember having my calf go into spasm after doing calf raises. So much so that I had to wince and bear with it but my ego just had me push through it. That's probably when I hurt it. Damn. Its so silly and i know that after a long period of inactivity one shouldn’t go hell-for-leather and expect your performance/weight would be the same. Lesson learnt. If i go too hard after a period of inactivity – I’ll hurt myself. Always start gradually.
So today was a good day to start the rest from running. Its Wednesday so its my day off anyway. Took the 08:31 Bus to Gerrards Cross and when I got there the Shuttle service was waiting there so that worked out. Met up with two guys from work sitting at the back of the bus. Not bad. I could do this everyday(while I heal only).
So far so good – but its only been 45 mins of no running so I still have opportunity to break down
but i wont.
