Well its been hot in the UK recently. I’ve really enjoyed it. This morning I ran into the office while running to what is called my ‘Ibiza Sunset’ playlist which is pretty much a run into the sunset-type of playlist. It was really laid-back. Which is not usually what I settle for. Usually, I’ve got some type of angry-monkey screaming down at me from the other end of my head phones.
That being said, I also found myself stopping over at the petrol station on-route to pick up an elderberry water. I never do that either. Usually I don’t need water.I also discovered that after having purchased said ice-cold water, that it was sparkling. This wasn’t a good thing generally. I was tooting up the hill from that point onwards which perhaps helped a bit. It was pretty hot so that’s probably why I decided to stop.
I’ve always liked running in the heat funnily enough. It does slow you down, that's for sure but you just have to keep going. You have to do it, there is no point being there if you can’t eventually get where you want to be. And I think its this ‘push’ or slow struggle that drives me. I was watching TV the other day and someone was questing why we humans do stuff, why we decide to go to work, queue, aim for promotion, aim for better this and that etc.… and the guy’s response was we do the things we do because we’re driven. Why are we driven? I don't know, is it something we instil in ourselves because its necessary to achieve, and achieving is what we’re ultimately after? Achieving anything. There you have it, I guess.
I watched the new Pirates of the Caribbean yesterday and well, I know it takes a lot to make a film and there is a lot involved and all credit to them, but for my £15 I wasn’t glued to the screen at all. I was thinking about it in the in the shower that it might have been because I’m getting tired of the special effects and animation and CGI and maybe movies are just too ‘fakey’ in this way? Probably, not – if the subject matter was more interesting and the story more captivating – perhaps I’d not mind the CGI, in fact I might prefer it. Don't know.
I’ve been taking a little strain over the last couple of weeks for some unknown reason - strain in as much as sometimes I’m not ‘ready’ to go for a run – physiologically. I was not feeling good on Monday last week, I called in sick too and I didn’t run which annoyed me – also the gym was closed. That also annoyed me. Then halfway through my run back home was when my stomach starting acting up on me and I stopped and walk home. That's when I decided that I wasn’t going to go into the office. That annoyed me. It picked up and pretty much I got back to ‘stead-state’ the rest of the week. I ran into the Office on Tuesday and Wednesday instead. I actually felt fine after the stomach bug…died, I guess?
I’ve been not doing much programming on the laptop on the weekends. Its been like this for about 3 weeks now. I think about programming all the time but I’m just not getting the urge to put it into the computer over the weekend. I wrote a program for my Dad the other day which was different and kinda cool because I had to re-write it in 2 languages C# and Java.
I’ve been thinking about C a lot lately. This weekend, I actually went out into the park in Uxbridge – I’ve never been to that park before and I read my new book on C. Its a new book for me but its an old book really: https://www.amazon.com/Book-Programming-4th-Al-Kelley/dp/0201183994. I quite like it. It covers a lot about the language including a lot of examples and exercises. The thing about C that I like, is that its so concise but to be that way some thing are heavily overloaded and need a keen eye to re-use some elements in different contexts – the rules basically need to be studied.
I got my ‘new’ iphone 5S partially setup this weekend(Its a refurb after my iPhone 4s’s USB connection died) and I must say I like my iPhone over my android but I will say this, the android is not half bad.
The things I missed about my iPhone are that I can use the ear phones with build in stop/start/volumn/ip/down mechanism in them to control music. Its just so effortless to change tracks/music while running. The other thing is that I feel Spotify is more responsive on iOS. That’s just subjective but whatever I can think what I want, right? Its also brain-dead simple to operate and I don't have to overthink what I doing – like on Android : can I press the back button now and what does that mean/do?
And well there you have it.
