A colleague asked me on Friday, whilst leaving the office, what I was doing over the weekend. I pretty much said, "yeah, nothing - running". That is, I said I'd do quite a bit of running this weekend(I speak fluent Stuart). That's all I could come up with at the time. Didn't sound like a massively eventful weekend(and that became apparent to me) and its weird because I kinda,at the time, thought it must or should. It was a little later that I felt my weekend almost had a critical audience, but whatever - I just stuck with what I knew at the time - you see, I pretty much have a plan in life which extends no further than 2 hours before me and I knew I always go running over the weekend so... But then i realised that really my weekend doesn't have to be anything other than what it is(ah what?) and shouldn't have to meet or match anyone's weekend expectations.
And then i realised, id been a victim of the "Weekend matchers" - those that put your innocent weekend against the wall and see if it meets the grade. Yeah, you know who you are! I shape my lips and pffft.. disdainfully in your general direction!
I know this has painfully gotten to the point where ive really oversubscribed to this topic but you kinda get stuck in between other people's opinions and needs that, I think, you start aligning yours with theirs - and it's so easy.(yes I'm still taking about just a weekend!)
That said, I kinda enjoyed my uneventful weekend, ran 11km's over the whole weekend and had a few good gym sessions to compliment it. Tried on my older running shoes, the ones that make me look like a hobo, and naturally they performed way better than my nicer, cooler-looking ones, which pleased me and disgusted me all at the same time. What that fundamentally meant was that I had for the first time, no blisters however, I seem to have replaced them with a stiff, rather achy body.
Also, headed into town, watched the new Pirates of the Caribbean which was .....er, long. Which, rather pleasingly, reminded me how absolutely beautiful Penelopez Cruz is and the need to visit Spain.
Then, well I pretty much finished off the weekend by completing a workable release my newest piece of software which is basically a twitter client.
hmmm. Now that seems like a lot to me, but is it really? Probably not but that's very, in fact, extremely, massively fine by me :-)
